Why Is My Song on Another Artist’s Spotify Profile and What Can I Do?

Why Is My Song on Another Artist’s Spotify Profile and What Can I Do?

If your release has landed on someone else’s Spotify profile — or on a brand new profile that isn’t the one you’ve been building — it’s almost always a mapping problem, not a lost release. It can be fixed.

Why this happens

No artist profile was connected at upload

This is the most common cause. If your existing Spotify artist link wasn’t added to your artist profile before the release was submitted, Spotify has nothing telling it which artist you are. It then either guesses based on your artist name or creates a new profile entirely.

Another artist shares your name

If someone else on Spotify already uses the same or a very similar artist name, and no link was provided to distinguish you, your release can be matched to their profile by mistake.

The wrong link was entered

If a Spotify artist link was added but it pointed to the wrong profile, your release goes exactly where that link said to send it.

What to do about it

  1. Confirm which profile your release actually landed on. Search your release on Spotify and open the artist name attached to it, so you know exactly where it went.
  2. Find your correct Spotify artist link. Open your real artist profile on Spotify, click the three dots (…), choose Share, then Copy link to artist.
  3. Contact HyDistro support. Let them know your release has been mapped to the wrong artist profile, and include:
    • The name and catalog number of the affected release
    • The link to the wrong profile it landed on
    • The link to your correct artist profile
  4. Wait for the relink to process. The team works with the store to move your release to the correct profile. This isn’t instant, since it depends on the store applying the change on their side.

Fixing it for future releases

While your current release is being sorted out, connect your correct profile so this doesn’t happen again on your next upload — see How Do I Connect My Spotify and Apple Music Profiles So My Releases Map Correctly? for the step-by-step.

If you don’t have a Spotify profile yet

If your release created a brand new Spotify profile and that profile is genuinely yours, you don’t need it moved — you just need to claim it. See How Do I Claim My Spotify Artist Profile?.

What not to do

Don’t take the release down and re-upload it hoping it lands correctly the second time. Without the correct artist link connected, it will most likely map to the same wrong profile again, and you’ll have lost your streaming history for nothing.

Summary: A release landing on the wrong Spotify profile is a mapping issue, usually caused by no artist link being connected before submission, another artist sharing your name, or an incorrect link being entered. To fix it, confirm which profile the release went to, copy the link to your correct Spotify artist profile, then contact HyDistro support with the release name and catalog number, the wrong profile link, and your correct profile link so the team can arrange a relink with the store. Connect your correct profile in My Artists to prevent it happening on future releases. Don’t take the release down and re-upload it — without the correct link connected it will likely map incorrectly again, and you’ll lose your streaming history.
