How Do Additional Artists and Roles Work?
Additional Artists is the section used to credit any artist who isn’t a Primary Artist or Various Artist, by assigning them a specific role.
What counts as an Additional Artist
Any contributor you want credited with a specific, named role — rather than as a co-main artist — goes under Additional Artists. This includes:
- Featured — a guest performance, shown as “feat.” on the release.
- Remixer — credited for a remix version of the track.
- DJ — DJ-specific credit.
- Producer — when credited as a performing/on-record role.
- Performer — a general performing contributor.
- Other role-based credits depending on the release type.
How to add an Additional Artist
When submitting your release, search for the artist (if they’re already on HyDistro) or enter their details manually, then select their role from the list. You can add as many Additional Artists as needed, each with their own role. See How Do I Add a New Artist? for details.
Release level vs. track level
You can add Additional Artists at either level:
- Release level — if the credit should apply across the whole release, useful for an EP or album where the same featured artist or role appears throughout.
- Track level — if the credit only applies to one specific track, not the whole project.
How this differs from other artist sections
Additional Artists is distinct from:
- Primary Artists — the main artist(s) credited on the release (see How Do Primary Artists Work?).
- Various Artists — used for genuine co-main-artist collaborations with equal billing (see How Do Various Artists Work? and What Is the Difference Between Various Artists and Additional Artists?).
- Featured Artist specifically is just one role within Additional Artists, not a separate section — see What Is the Difference Between Additional Artists and Featured Artists? for the full breakdown.
Additional Artists vs. Contributors
Additional Artists covers performing or on-record roles (like Featured, Remixer, DJ). Behind-the-scenes roles that aren’t performance-based — like Songwriter, Mixing Engineer, or Executive Producer — are handled separately under Contributors (see How Do Contributors Work?).
