What’s the Difference Between Music and Video Distribution?
Music and video distribution serve two different purposes on HyDistro — here’s what actually sets them apart.
What you’re distributing
- Music distribution delivers your audio track to streaming platforms — the song itself, with no visual component.
- Video distribution delivers your actual music video — a video file, submitted and reviewed separately from your audio release.
Where each one goes
Music and video releases don’t go to the same set of platforms:
- Music goes to platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, Audiomack, TikTok, and other audio streaming services.
- Video goes to platforms built for video content — YouTube, VEVO, Boomplay, Apple Music, Tidal and more.
How earnings work
Music royalties come from streams. Video royalties come from views and video-specific monetization (such as YouTube Content ID), which is tracked and calculated differently from streaming royalties — but both flow into the same wallet and royalty reporting on your account.
One account, two release types
You don’t need a separate account for video. Both music and video releases live under the same artist profile, with their own submission and review process, but shared visibility across your dashboard, analytics, and wallet.
