What Is HyCard and How Do I Set It Up?
HyCard is the virtual card inside your HyDistro wallet. It has its own 16-digit number, an expiry date and a 3-digit security code, and it is protected by a 4-digit PIN that only you know. You can use it to pay for plans and services on HyDistro straight from your wallet balance, with no bank card needed. This article explains what HyCard is, what you need before you start, and the exact steps to set up your PIN for the first time. Setting up takes about two minutes, you only do it once, and no bank card is needed.
What HyCard is
HyCard is a virtual card that lives inside your wallet. There is nothing to order or wait for, because every wallet already has one. It shows on the Wallet page as a card with your Available Balance on the front, and your card details and PIN settings on the back.
You use HyCard to pay for things on HyDistro from your wallet balance. At checkout, your card number and expiry date are filled in for you, and you only type your CVV and your PIN to confirm. Because the money comes straight from your wallet, there are no bank card details to enter. See How Do I Pay With My HyCard at Checkout?
Your HyCard and your HyTag are different things. Your HyCard pays for HyDistro services. Your HyTag is your username for sending and receiving money between HyDistro users. See How Do I Send and Receive Money With a HyTag?
Before you start
- You can log in to your HyDistro dashboard.
- You can open the email inbox of the email address on your account. A 6-digit code is sent there.
How to set up your HyCard for the first time
- Log in to your HyDistro dashboard and open the Wallet page, or go straight to https://dashboard.hydistro.com/wallet
- At the top of the page you will see your wallet card. It shows your Available Balance and a dotted card number ending in four digits.
- Press the small round eye button at the bottom left of the card, next to the dotted number. The card turns over to show its back.
- On the back of the card, press the eye button at the right end of the dotted card number. You can also press Set PIN at the bottom right of the card. Because you do not have a PIN yet, a form opens.
- A 6-digit code is sent to your account email. The card tells you where it was sent, with part of the address hidden. Open your email and find the message. If you cannot see it, check your spam folder.
- Type the code into the Email code box.
- In New PIN, choose a 4-digit PIN. Type it again in Confirm.
- Press Create PIN.
Your PIN is now set. Your card details show for 30 seconds so you can see them, and then hide again automatically.
Good to know about the email code
- The code is valid for 10 minutes.
- You can ask for a new one by pressing Resend. You need to wait about a minute between requests, and you can request up to 5 codes in an hour.
- If you type the wrong code 5 times, that code stops working and you need to request a new one.
Choosing a PIN
Your PIN must be exactly 4 digits. HyDistro refuses PINs that are easy to guess, such as 1111, 1212, 1234 or 4321, and a short list of very common ones. If your PIN is refused, simply pick another.
Choose something you can remember but others cannot guess. Do not use your birth year or part of your phone number.
After you set your PIN
We send a confirmation email telling you a PIN was created for your wallet. If you did not do this, freeze your wallet straight away: open live chat at https://support.hydistro.com/live-chat and send the message Freeze wallet to Hylora. Then tell us at https://support.hydistro.com/submit-ticket
You are now ready to:
- View your card details. See How Do I See My HyCard Number, Expiry Date and CVV?
- Pay at checkout. See How Do I Pay With My HyCard at Checkout?
- Change your PIN later. See How Do I Set, Change or Reset My Wallet PIN?
Staying safe
- Never share your PIN or your CVV with anyone. HyDistro will never ask you for them.
- After five wrong PIN attempts your card locks for a while. See Why Is My HyCard Locked or Paused?
